The New Old Dance Hall: Dessau Hall is back!

Dessaus Hall, located at 13422 Dessau Road (Google map link), has been part of the Texas dance landscape since 1876.

Ernest Tubb, Don Walser and many more.

Now Dessau Hall will celebrate its latest renovation with a Grand Opening celebration featuring Green Whiskey and Anthony Eby on Saturday June 13, 2009. No Cover til 10pm, $5 after 10pm

Throughout the summer, here's the schedule overview:

I went dancing at Dessau Hall back in the 70's and 80's. Back then you had to be well dressed to go: dresses and suits except when a Western band played and then cowgirl/cowboy clothes you had to wear. (Strict dress code.) Music and dance floor were wonderful.

Thanks Jackie. Are you going to check out the new Dessau Hall? I received this note in my email:
Fridays offer "free dance lessons (from teachers at Uptown Dance), followed by hours of great social dancing now at Dessau Hall. Doors open at 7pm with no cover charge until 9pm."

Let me know if you get a chance to twirl on the new floor!

WILL YOU BE OFFERING THE DANCE HALL AS A WEDDING RECEPTION VENUE?

I do not work for Dessau Hall. Please call them directly with your question. Good luck!

I love the new dance floor and the fact there is a lot of air moving on and over the dance flloor. I was hoping the new Air Conditioning would be adequate in the seating area but from what I've seen it appears not to be, unless you just haven't been turning enough units on until the place has too many people in it to catch up very fast. The biggest problem is there is no air moving at all when the A/C is between cycles. Suggest the placing the A/C circulating fan on continuous instead of automatic so there is always some air moving in the seating area. The reason being is when the dancers come off the dance floor They are bringing many bodies that are producing a lot of humidity (as well as cigerette smoke buildup) in that area. Unless that humidity and and smoke are continually circulated it builds up rather fast in the seating area and is extremely unconfortable for the Patrons as well as the your working staff.

I have been appalled at the deceptive trade practice of Dessau Hall.
They have changed the cover charge three times. It is almost like we have to write a blank check to get in because the price changes every Friday night. They are going to loose most our our Greater Austin Dancer organization because of this practice. This could be as many as 50 people. It's too bad the management can't see this is a poor business practice. I know several people that turned around and left mad when they jumped the price from $5 to $6 last friday without notice. What next? $7 next week, $10 the next week. We are OK with the $5 and enjoy the dance lessons. Some of the bands don't appeal to us so we leave about 10 pm. J. Burris

I will deffinatly be checking this venue out in within the next month. I live in the area and althoe Ive never been there Ive heard stories from my father about some great shows this hall has put on in the past. I drove by the other day and it looks like somebody finally put in a parkinglot and lighting. It was sad too see such a great Dance hall turn Tehano over the last years. But Im anxious to see a new younger generation of TX singer Songwritters perform there. Besides good bands never play at Grams and Coupland Dance hall is too far to drive.

There was no deception intended with the cover charge changes. The cover charge is set according to the band that is playing on any given night. Normaly $5.00. Cover charges can be found on our new website www.newdessauhall.com. Please understand that we have to pay the band based on the door count and even if you do not stay we still pay the band for your admittance. I am always open to suggestions and comments, you can email me at robin@newdessauhall.com. We appreciate your business and want everyone to come out and have a good time.

The cover charge is based on what band is playing... I will gladly pay $18 to see Johnny Lee preform... It's a bargain to see a legend play.

Word on the street has it that Dessau Hall is closed (according to a drive by in November 2009). Any word from y'all about this? I'd appreciate knowing if this is a temporary situation. Thanks in advance.
